Vocational training in agriculture in Germany, known as Ausbildung zum Landwirt/zur Landwirtin, is a three-year program that combines theoretical instruction in vocational schools with practical learning on agricultural farms. Learners acquire essential skills such as crop management, operation and maintenance of agricultural machinery, soil protection, as well as principles of sustainability and natural resource management. This dual approach enables the development of both technical knowledge and solid hands-on experience, which are indispensable for working in a constantly evolving sector.

At the end of the training, graduates can work in agricultural farms, cooperatives, agribusiness companies, or specialize in fields such as organic farming, viticulture, horticulture, or forestry management. Germany, strongly committed to the modernization and digitalization of its agricultural sector, offers numerous professional opportunities as well as prospects for advancement, including management positions or the pursuit of a Master Craftsman title, which allows graduates to run their own farm or train apprentices.

To follow an agriculture  training program in Germany, you need :

  • At least a high school diploma or an equivalent qualification.
  • A German language level of B2 (although some training schools in Germany accept B1)
  • To be under 32 years old (a common condition for international programs).
